About this Site

The Smoking Torpedo is a cigar review site created to document my reviews of the cigars I smoke. While not intended to attempt to compete with the likes of The Half-Wheel, Cigar Aficionado, and other well-reputed cigar review sites, it does attempt to give a layman's viewpoint of the cigars that are reviewed. Cigars that are reviewed are not based on any particular order or method, but rather I will review a new cigar when I smoke it.

If you are just getting into cigars, want to learn more, or looking for a good way to start, the cigars sub-community of Reddit is a good place to ask for help.

With that being said, you're probably wondering why you should even bother reading my reviews. Well, I'll tell you.

Price is a Factor:
Other sites will rate cigar A a 8/10, and cigar B an 8/10, but if you look closely you'll find that cigar B is half as expensive. So why would you buy cigar A?
This site will offer a "overall grade", similar to normal sites, but will also offer a "final grade" that factors in the price of the cigar, relative to its smoking experience. This is what differs my reviews from the others - an overall grade that is actually in touch with the price of the stick.

Price Range of the Cigars:
As mentioned previously, I plan on review new cigars when I smoke them, and not a second before. Consequently, the cigars that I review will not be Cohiba Behikes, Opus X's, and other super high-end cigars (although if I manage to snag one, of course I'll throw that up here). Rather, they will be your day-to-day cigars. I feel reviews for these cigars are more important, because they are the cigars that you're going to debate buying - if you have the money for an opus x and you're planning on buying it, you're going to. If you have the money for a bundle or box of average cigars, you have hundreds of choices, and need quality reviews to help you make your decision. Hopefully these reviews will help the reader to find good cigars that are decently priced.

Layman's Perspective:
Let's face it, we've all read cigar reviews that are written by people with their nose in the clouds, and they get really annoying. We want to read cigar reviews to find out whether or not we should buy a cigar (yet again, see price range of the cigars section), not how high and mighty the reviewer is. These reviews will hopefully give a layman's perspective as to whether or not you should buy the cigar, for what price (e.g., only buy if it's on sale, not worth the price tag), and reviews that are easy to relate to.
In short, I will review cigars that you won't feel guilty about smoking because of their $15 price tag - but cigars we hope to enjoy nonetheless - factoring in price, and reviewing from a layman's perspective. I hope that reading the reviews I will write will help the average cigar smoker to find smokes he can enjoy at a decent price.
